From The Ready Room

 By Captain Jonathan Steele

First off I want to thank everyone who attended our 10th Anniversary Party, July 22nd at
Dave and Buster's, the food was great, but sharing our event with friends was even better.
We appreciate the good wishes from the members of the U.S.S. Yorktown NCC - 1704 - A, and the wonderful picture plaque of John Glenn's Shuttle Launch presented to the ship by Kevin Petite and Laurie Graving. Thank you all, hopefully the Camelot will continue to "boldly go" far into the future. We also started a NEW tradition at the party; the Knighting of the Camelot's Captain. I was escorted on behalf of the 2nd Marine Strike Group by CO Mark Meece and Lt. Cindy Johnson to the front of the room where on bended knee I was promptly "knighted" by Captain Rick Alvey. It was appropriate that Rick used Cindy's "Excaliber" sword. I thank the entire crew for their encouragement and their ability to keep the knighting a secret. I won't mention the knick I sufferred on my right ear.............just kidding!!

See ya next time,
Jonathan

News of/from the Dragonriders, 2nd Marine Strike Group

This issue I wanted to point out some things about the Marine uniforms.

At the moment, the standard Marine uniform is the Battle Dress Uniforms or BDUs for short. Color is solid black.
There are two types of fabic available: ripstop for summer wear; cotton blend for winter wear.

You can find black BDUs at several local outlets. The Army Store with outlets in Fairfield and Covington are your best  bets locally, but call ahead to check on sizes and stock availablity.

Ted's offers a large variety of military surplus gear and clothing, and stock never appears to be a problem. The on-line catalog is loaded with pictures so you get a good idea of what you want to buy.

I ordered my current set of BDUs from Ted's and the service was great.  I received my order in just 4 days. Ted's also has a great selection of  accessories that complement the Marine Uniform. I also found their prices to be very reasonable. If you get a chance, check them out.

More on Marine uniforms in next issue.

AWAY MISSION REPORT: DOVER 2000

By Crewman Robin Fenner-Barbee

Klingons, Ferengi and Romulans...oh my!!!

I still suffer the emotional scars from being in close proximity to Princess Liea's
inebriated stunt double... but wait I am getting ahead of myself!

As a new member, "going to Dover" meant nothing to me.... everyone else seemed
excited at this yearly tradition and as to date they had lost no one to the pool I figured what
the heck!

Though most of you were there I will spare you the details and break it down
into a top 10 list....      "Things I loved About Dover"

10. Klingons
The key word here being KLING...my my,  the joys of cute butts in tight pants....

9. Maltz at Midnight
Our little detour really added to the adventure! though I passed on the malt
and almost passed out due to claustrophobia it was a blast!

8. Slave Auction
More Klingons!! Thanks to all the ladies who pitched in to "purchase"
our very own Klingon!!  Next year I am coming prepared to bid!!

7. Strange Brews
and jello and pina coladas and loud room parties! Need I say more?

6. Wal-Mart
This where the crew of shuttle pod "Louise" encountered that dreamy Klingon
from down south! All Away team missions should be this fun!

5. Bounty Ball
Pick up spills AND spike your opponent all while attracting strange stares
from curious onlookers.

4. Did I mention Klingons??

3. Costumes
I was SO impressed! The time, energy and effort involved was apparent and
VERY impressive. I must admit that my favorite had to be Vicki's Bajoran!
Catherine and Rays Vulcan robes were great as well!

2. My travelling companions
Captain Peggy, Navigator Katherine and fellow crew member Ina made the Trek
in shuttle pod "Louise" a great part of the weekend.
Rooming with Ina was the best! Praying she stays in the country!!!!

AND the #1 thing I loved about Dover............

The Camelot Contingency
The great sense of belonging to such a wonderful group!
What a privilege to belong to the best ship in Fandom!

There you have it....and yes...I can't wait until next year!!

AWAY MISSION REPORT: CHICAGO FEDORA CON
By: Colonel Mark Meece

A small delegation of Camelot crewmembers made their way to Chicago on the weekend of
June 2-4 for the Slanted Fedora Con at the O'Hare Radisson Hotel. The delegation included
Denise Downing, Cindy Johnson, Mark and Vicki Meece and Katherine and Robert Wilhite. Ina Kratzsch was there was as well having hitched a ride on the the  U.S.S. Yorktown shuttle.

The shuttle carrying Denise, Cindy, Katherine and Bob had a malfunction just before
Indianapolis and we had to stop for repairs. There was a slight detour near Lafayette, Indiana
as Mark monitored via radio that I-65 was closed down. The two shuttle caravan were using
Family Service Radios (FRS) that provided communications between shuttles, that saved a
lot of hassels and time. We toured around the mess and made it to Chicago which we then
got into even more of a mess. We eventually found our way to the hotel and got settled in.
This con featured Leonard Nimoy in his only convention appearance of the year. John De
Lancie was also there as was Walter Koenig, Jerry Hardin, The Duras Sisters and Mary Kay
Adams. Old friends Jack Donner and Paul Carr (Dover 99) were there too.

The Saturday night dinner featured a live presentation of "Spock vs Q". All in attendance
received a signed CD. It was wonderful. The dinner was by far the best, and we actually think
Bob enjoyed it, as it was the first time he has joined us for a convention.

The dealers room was one of the best we have seen for a Slanted Fedora Con.

We are already looking forward to the Slanted Fedora Indianpolis Convention in Novmeber.

Dave Scott (Slanted Fedora proprietor) on July 10 will announce a location for Patrick
Stewart sometime this fall on. Check out their website for more details.

LCARS CENTER
Resources found by crewmembers

From Robin Fenner-Barbee

The Logbook.com

This site features the most complete listing of sci-fi TV episode guides that I have ever seen.
Everything from classic Trek and the Star Trek animated series to Blake's Seven and Dr.
Who! Listing a brief synopsis of the episode, broadcast date, cast and guest cast (and in the
case of Trek even stardates!!) If the episode is available on DVD or VHS or if you want to buy
the soundtrack that is also an option on this page.

This is a great resource for you trivia fans.... for instance:
The episode "The Cage" was rejected by NBC what was the name of the episode
that finally sold them on Star Trek? (answer at bottom of page)

Sound like a Star Trek trivia expert in minutes!!! Amaze and astound your friends with a bevy
of useless knowledge!

Oh, before I forget it also features reviews from sci-fi movies, books and even music!

GAMM Advanced ST RPG

GAMM is an Advanced Star Trek RPG which began on the Classic Prodigy BB's a number of
years ago.

Though I have RP'ed (role played) many Star Wars senerios I had never before
attempted a ST one. It didn't take long before I got the hang of it!

If this sounds like something you are interested in visit the site and register in Delphi. Sign
into GAMM and post a message under the Join office discussion found under the
Headquarters heading. List your top three choices of positions. (Helm, Medical, TAC, OPS,
Intelligence, Science, Counseling, Engineering, Security, Marines, or Fighter Pilot.) We can
even arrange for some civilian positions such as Bartender or something in HQ.

List your past RPGing experience if you have any and tell us how often you'll be
posting.  It is easy and it is FUN!!!!

Next from Russell Grubb:

I ran across a story at work today about   where you can read books
on line, presumably for free.  While just now checking the site I ran across short stories by J.
Michael Straczynski called Cold Fusion and thought the B5 fans might be interested.  There
is a link from the main page.

Also available from the main page is a list of links to books in the following categories:
Classics, History and Biography, Horror, Literature, Mystery and Thriller, Non-Fiction, Politics,
Religion, Romance, Science Fiction, and Young Adult.  There should be something for just
about everyone it seems. It is possible to view and alphabatized list of all
titles in a category.

That's as far as I've looked into it for now.  If I find anything really neat I'll let you know.

Finding references to the world of Trek in everyday life.

This one is pointed out by Mark Meece.
It is obvious that Jimmy Buffett is a Trekkie. He makes reference to Star Trek/Sci-Fi
in several of his songs.

Boat Drinks - 1979

"I gotta go where there ain't a lot of snow,
can you beam me somewhere Mr. Scott?

Fruitcakes - 1994

"Stardate 2000 and something.
We're seven years from the millineum
thats a science fiction fact.
Stanley Kubrick and his buddy Hal
Now don't seem that abstract."
